Electrical Price Index Jumps 0.4% in January

Feb. 23, 2018
EM’s Electrical Price Index (EPI) saw an increase in January with a higher number of product categories than normal showing a monthly increase

EM’s Electrical Price Index (EPI) saw an increase in January with a higher number of product categories than normal showing a monthly increase of at least 1%. Industrial Fixtures led the pack with a +1.8% increase and were followed by Power Wire & Cable (+1.7%); Generators (+1.6%); Appliances (+1.6%);  Air Conditioners (+1.4%); and Motors (+1.4%). Power Wire & Cable saw the most dramatic year-over-year increase at +10.7%.

Note: All EPI series represent Global Insight aggregates of Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) producer price indices (PPIs). The revised data partly reflect redefinitions of specific PPIs by the BLS, but mostly reflect the rebenchmarking of all EPI price series to a 1997 base year. The four following EPI series have been affected by BLS redefinitions: boxes, conduit (fittings), nonmetallic conduit, and generators. Sources: U.S. Bureau of  Labor  Statistics; Global Insight
