Here's a real new twist on LED lighting. Available on www.kickstarter.com, the LIFX ED LEDs can be controlled by iPhones or Android smart phones. But here's a really new twist for average-Joe homeowners who want to do something a little different with their home lighting. You can not only turn the LIFX LEDs on and off -- you can program them to emit different colors, and match the lighting to the beat of your music.

Alas, there's a catch. The bulbs are available for a "pledge" of $69 and won't be available until March 2013. Pledge $5,000 and you get the distributor deal -- 100 LIFX LEDs in four-bulb packs, point-of-sale displays, a demo bulb. and direct technical support from the LIFX team. The bulbs are available in Edison-screw mount, bayonet-cap or downlight mounts. They produce lumens equivalent of a 60Wincandescent bulb or 50W halogen downlight.
