Big-box office supply retailer Staples is stepping in to add incentives for customers to install rooftop solar systems. Through a partnership with EnergySage, providers of an online marketplace for connecting home owners with solar system installers, Staples will take part in a new co-branded solar shopping site. Consumers who install solar through the Staples-EnergySage Solar Marketplace will receive Staples e-gift cards ranging from $125 to $300 for a residential installation and from $500 to more than $2,500 for commercial installations, depending on the size of the solar panel system installed at their property.

The system is based on the EnergySage Solar Marketplace, which bills itself as “the only online shopping platform for solar PV systems.” The site offers multiple quotes with options including choice of solar panels, brands, installers and financing options. EnergySage says it helps consumers save on average 9% compared with average industry prices.
