NEMA: Demand Growth for T5 and T12 Fluorescents Beats T8, but T8 Share Still Dominates

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), Rosslyn, Va., said shipments of T5 and T12 linear fluorescent lamps improved by 9.9 percent and 9.4 percent, respectively, on a quarterly basis  during 2013Q4. Shipments of T8 lamps, by contrast, contracted 2.1 percent quarter-to-quarter. Nevertheless, for the full calendar year 2013, the T8 index advanced 9.4 percent. T5 lamps in calendar year 2013 also registered a gain, beating 2012 shipments by 9 percent while T12 lamps posted an annual decline of 25.6 percent for 2013.

Market shares for the three linear fluorescent lamp types tracked by the index showed mixed results during the quarter. T8 lamps gave up 2.3 percent, posting a share of 70.6 percent, while T5 and T12 lamps posted gains during the quarter, with market shares of 11.7 and 17.7 percent, respectively.
