Two of General Cable's manufacturing facilities and a Philips Lighting plant were named among the winners of IndustryWeek's annual "Best Plants" awards.
General Cable's Altoona, Pa., plant, a 198,000-square-foot facility that produces automotive ignition wire sets, is a repeat winner, having been recognized with the same award in 2003. The Altoona plant is joined by General de Cable de Mexico del Norte S.A. de C.V. in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, a 75,000-square-foot plant that produces wire harnesses.
Philips Lighting's Philips Professional Luminaires plant in Sparta, Tenn., a 300,000-square-foot facility where the company makes 14,000 lighting fixtures a day, won a Best Plants award after having been a finalist in 2007 and 2008. The Philips Respironics plant in Murraysville, Pa., which makes medical devices, also won.
